Whitney Sims

Ms. Mompreneur 2024

1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

If given the option, in the states, it would be the DMV without hesitation. After participating in Christmas in Washington and Kennedy Center Honors during the Obama administration, I was given the opportunity to stay for 2 weeks at a time and, with each visit, I didn’t want to leave. The food, the culture, the music, the black excellence…..it’s just a vibe.

2. If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be?

I would absolutely LOVE to meet Michelle Obama and Angela Bassett! I know it asked for one person but I couldn’t decide. lol It has always been a dream to meet these two amazing women, more than anything, since I can remember.

3. Who is your role model and why?

I consider Michelle Obama a role model because she is a strong black woman in every aspect of that phrase. I love and admire her advocacy for education and service to communities. I applaud her ability to still work within her gifts and pursue her passions while being an active wife and mom. Even though she has said on numerous occasions that her family is her top priority, she is blessed to have the safe space to just ‘be’ and create a legacy for herself as an individual.

4. Best advice you’ve ever been given:

“Closed mouths don’t get fed but open mouths feed generations…” Pastor Mike Todd

Oftentimes our destiny, or even someone else’s breakthrough is attached to our testimony or experience(s) but if we stay silent or allow fear to grip us no one wins.

5. Something interesting about you:

As much as I loved/love working with children I never had a desire to have children of my own. God had other plans and, in Dec 2019, the answer to my prayers of wanting to leave the classroom but not knowing how, came in the form of what I thought I didn’t want….a child. Now I can’t picture my life without him. Had he not come I would probably still be in the classroom, unhappy and looking for a way out.

6. Three words that describe you best:
